Queens In Our Own Right, 2017
Derived from the piece Heavy Is The Head, Queens In Our Own Right is a performance that seeks inclusion of a more diverse representation of women amongst the paintings presented within the Rhode Island School of Design Museum collection. A spiked bowl rests upon a periwinkle, velvet cushion and the performance commences with balancing the piece on the head of the artist. Standing until there are signs of discomfort, the performance continues until another woman removes it and places it upon their head. This continues for the duration of the piece to serve as a metaphor for comradery amongst women and female lineage.
